5 Thai Acts headlined for LUVCON 2024: feelings ain’t overrated

Put your hearts up as Valentine’s Day came early with Boss Chaikamon, Boy Sompob, Tale, Three Man Down, and Tilly Birds at “LUVCON 2024: feelings ain’t overrated” at SM Skydome. An evening filled with singing, and appreciation for Thai music.

On February 11, 2024, the show featured five exceptional musicians from Thailand, a first for the Philippine concert scene.

Enthusiastic fans wrote their adoration for their musicians on the Yours Truly Message Wall prior to the show. Group pictures and the Hi-Touch fan benefit also provided fans with their first opportunity to engage with the performers.

1.  TALE – Thai alternative pop duo

First up, let’s go dive into the feels with Tale, a Thai alternative pop duo that includes Ponjang and Tantai with “ดวงใจ (My Heart)” and “หลอกตวัเอง (Fool Oneself).” The duo performed their acoustic talent with covers of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Deja vu,” Taylor Swift’s “Style” and  “Cruel Summer.”

The covers doesn’t stop there as OPM music “Sana” by I Belong to the Zoo and “Imahe” by Magnus Haven leaving the audience in awe as they sang it with good Filipino lyrics and pronunciation.

They also shared “Falsely Moving On” a great song for someone who is trying to go forward with love and their recent music release “Vivid Midnights” which emhasized a sense of of longingness.

“ANYMORE,” “ขอแคเพอ ่ บอกมา (ARE YOU READY?)” and รอ (STANDBY)” were the last songs the duo performed before closing and saying goodbye to their fans with an incredible acoustic set featuring Thai, Western, and Filipino pop tunes.

2. BOY SOMPOB – Thai singer

The night is followed with the lone Thai vocalist Boy Sompob, who featured songs including สนั่ (SHAKE), ขอ (WISH), โชคดแคี ไหน ่ (THE LUCKIEST BOY), and ฟังใจ (You are my destiny) – making you feel like a main character in a Thai TV series.

In between the set, Sompob was emotional and teary eyed.  “I want to thank all of you guys. I can’t believe I am standing here to sing in front of you… I am so lucky,” Sompob said.

Meanwhile, he captivates the crowd with his vocals in อยากใชค้ำวา่ รัก (CAN I SAY THE WORD LOVE WITH YOU), “จะรักใหด ้ทีสี่ ดุ (BEST YOU’VE EVER LOVED),” “คนแรกและคนสดทาย ุ ้ (UNFORGOTTEN NIGHT OST)” and “พรหมลขิ ติ (DO YOU BELIEVE IN DESTINY).”

More OST songs came through which showcased his other OST hits “นานานา (NANANA)” from from Love By Chance and “พระอาทตยเท ิ ์ี่ยงคนื (MIDNIGHT SUN)” from Water Boyy.” He also led the audience in singing along to his OPM cover of “Yours Forever” by Zack Tabudlo and as well as his orginal “ขอดาว (Cry for the Star)” and “พบเพอจาก ื (Until We Meet Again).”

3. Three Man Down – Thai pop rock band

The night is still young with Thai pop rock Band Three Man Down with energy in the roof with songs เมา (DRUNK IN LOVE) ปล่อยให้เวลา (BROKEN CLOCK), น้อง (NONG), เปิดตัวเขา (REBOUND), ไหนบอกเลิกแล้ว (IN MY BED) from their recent released album “28”.

The four member ensemble with Kit (Vocalist), Toon (Guitarist), Thay (Drummer), and Seng (Synthesizer) invited a lucky fan to sing with them on stage during ฝนตกไหม (IS IT RAINING?).

Energy shifted into a melancholic rock beats as memories lingers and stay with ไปเถอะเธอ (JUST GO) วันเกิดฉันปีนี (HBD TO ME), “เก็บไว้ในใจไม่พอ (ISN’T ENOUGH TO ONLY KEEP IN MIND), ความรักทำให้คนตาบอด (LOVE MAKES PEOPLE BLIND).

Then it continued to exhibit emotions and perfect vibe for ข้างกัน (CITY), คุยคนเดียวเก่ง (TALKING ALONE), ถ้าเธอรักฉันจริง (IF YOU TRULY LOVE ME), and ลือกคนที่เขารักเรา (CHOOSE THE ONE WHO LOVES US).

4. Boss Chaikamon – Thai actor and singer

Thai actor and singer Boss Chaikamon makes fans’ hearts go boom with “My Strongest Love,”น่ารักชปปิ ๋งุ (NARAK CHIP PUN LOEY), and เหมอ่ ไมได่ มอง ้ (YOUR SIGHTS). He also covered “At My Worst” of Pink Sweats and Jungkook ft. Latto’s “Seven.”

Chaikamon followed it up with a slow and romantic Chinese song “Midnight” and a charismatic cover of OPM song “Paano” by Zack Tabudlo. He wraps up his full set with “Yeongwonhi.”

5. Tilly Birds 

As the lights went down for the final performance of the evening, the Thai alternative group Tilly Birds rocked the crowd with hits including “White Pills,” “Bangkok Winter,” “Can’t Have It All,” “Along the Way,” and “Memories.”

The same lucky fan made a comeback on stage, joining the band with a duet proving that it was undoubtedly “Worth the Wait.” Along with tracks from their 2021 album “It’s Gonna be OK,” they also play tracks like “Can’t Keep Up,” “Send You Off,” “Until Then,” and “Just Being Friendly” with Milly.

Audience with a new perspective about love through “Status,” “I Need No One,” “Heart in a Cage,” “Same Page.”  Concert goers definitely knows how to party and the band’s energy spread through the roof – jumping and singing with “Like a Dead Man,” “Ordinary,” and “Who I Am”, powering to their 18 full set songs.

The group is composed of lead vocalist Anuroth “Third” Ketlekha, guitarist Nutdanai “Billy” Chuchat, and drummer Thuwanon “Milo” Tantiwattanaworakul. The trio also performed at the same venue on September 9, 2023.

With action-packed set of Tale, Boy Sompob, Three Man Down, Boss Chaikamon, and Tilly Birds, LUVCON 2024: sentiments ain’t overrated came to a close. Indeed, love and music have a diverse connection that transcends language barries and cultural boundaries.
