Department of Tourism Launches “Keep the Fun Going” Sustainable Tourism Campaign With Gamified Challenges
The Department of Tourism (DOT) has launched the second phase of the Save Our Spots (SOS) campaign, dubbed “Keep the Fun Going,” in an effort to encourage tourists to travel in an environmentally sustainable manner.
The campaign builds on the success of the SOS phase one campaign, which was started in 2019 to teach tourists how to be responsible tourists. “Keep the Fun Going” is a gamified challenge that attempts to not only educate but also urge travelers to participate in sustainable tourism activities.
“The Department of Tourism has been incorporating sustainable tourism ideas into its projects, programs, and regulations, even involving tourists in the process.” “Through the SOS campaign, we hope to increase awareness about responsible tourism and underline that every tiny gesture goes a long way toward ensuring that future generations benefit from and enjoy nature’s bounty,” Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said.
The Philippines is home to some of the world’s most diverse ecosystems and animals, which are threatened by climate change as well as human hazards such as overtourism and environmental neglect.
The ad will promote a gamified experience with four eco-friendly methods to travel in order to encourage more tourists to embrace sustainable travel. The difficulties will be shown in partnership with local key influencers, and the public will be encouraged to participate in at least two of the four activities:
CHALLENGES:
The “Certified Foot Soldier Challenge,” which encourages travelers to walk, hike, or bike more frequently; t
The “Zero-Waste Warrior,” encourages travelers to avoid single-use plastics and always to bring reusable water bottles, utensils, and shopping bags;
The “resTOURism Advocate Challenge,” encourages tourists to volunteer in community restoration efforts such as planting activities, clean-up drives, wildlife preservation; and
The “Eco-Staycationer Challenge,” encourages tourists to stay in eco-friendly accommodations such as local homestays or ANAHAW-awardee hotels that promote sustainability.
GUIDELINES:
Participants can win by completing at least two challenges and sharing them on social media according to the following guidelines:
STEP 1: Photograph yourself completing the challenges.
You can use an app to track or record your steps or bike trip as proof for Certified Foot Soldier.
Best if you can incorporate an eco-friendly practice of the establishment in your film for Eco-staycationer. Camping and staycations (in a green hotel) are both acceptable.
STEP 2: Add your image.
Add a geotag and a brief description.
STEP 3: Tag the official Department of Transportation social media accounts:
Tiktok: tourismphilippines
Instagram: tourism_phl
Facebook: facebook.com/DepartmentOfTourism
Twitter: TourismPHL
STEP 4: In your caption, include the hashtags #KeepTheFunGoing and #ChallengeDone.
STEP 5: In your post, tag three of your friends.
STEP 6: Make sure your profile is set to public so that we can see your submission.
An electronic raffle will be used to draw all of the entries. Every Saturday, the weekly winners will be announced and notified via Facebook Personal Message. The two grand winners will receive a FREE TRIP for two to Palawan, which will be picked from all of the qualified entries.
