Juknokwon: Discover the Bamboo Forest In Korea
Have you heard about Juknokwon?
Juknokwon is a bamboo forest located in Damyang, South Jeolla Province. It’s also known as the “Bamboo Garden” and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013.
The Bamboo Garden includes three significant areas: Jukdo (Jukdo Island), Nokbongsan Mountain, and Bokdam Mountain.

Juknokwon Damyang Bamboo Forest
Juknokwon Damyang Bamboo Forest is the largest bamboo grove in Korea. You can begin your hike down a paved trail that winds through an incredibly diverse bamboo ecosystem from the parking lot.
Various flowers, fruits, and mushrooms grow in the forest, which produces enough oxygen for over 2000 people on an average day. This massive area of green offers hiking, bird watching, cultural programs, and even large-scale musical performances for visitors.

When you walk around the Juknokwon
The bamboo forest is full of paths to walk around, so you can easily enjoy the scenery. There are also many places to rest while walking around the bamboo forest. If you want to see a beautiful view of this area, you should go up to the top of Juknokwon Hill.
You can walk around the forest, even take some time and lie down on your back looking at the sky through the bamboo branches if it’s not raining that day!
You can also have a picnic here and enjoy some delicious foods and drinks with your friends or family members. There are also many trails where people can walk around freely and enjoy their time.

- Address: 119 Jungnogwon-ro, Damyang-eup, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do
- By Car: It takes approximately 3.5 hours to drive from Seoul to Juknokwon Bamboo Forest in Damyang.
- By Train: Take the train to Gwangju Station, then board bus #311, which will drop you off directly in front of the Juknokwon entrance.
- By Bus: You can reach Damyang Bus Terminal at 8:10 am, 11:10 am, 2:10 pm, or 5:10 pm from Central City Bus Terminal. Outside of the terminal, bus #311 to Juknokwon should be taken. OR depart the airport by taxi. It should take less than 10 minutes and cost approximately W4,000.
