Hallyu superstar Lee Seung Gi made a triumphant return to Manila on May 27 when he performed at the New Frontier Theater for the first time as a solo singer for his “The Dreamer’s Dream: Chapter 2” Asia tour. The soulful song “Because You Are My Woman” was Lee Seung Gi’s debut track in 2004, but he also became well-known for his roles in the dramas My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho (2010), Vagabond (2019) and Mouse (2021).
Known as South Korea’s ‘Triple Threat’ for his versatility as a singer, actor, and host, the 36-year-old actor introduced himself to the media during the public press conference hosted by Sam Oh at the Market Market Activity Center hours before his concert.
Lee Seung Gi entered the stage beaming while waving at his fans. The singer couldn’t help but admire the hospitality of Filipino fans. He thanked the Filipino Airens for always giving him the warmest welcome. Along with that, the singer also practiced his Tagalog by saying “mahal kita” and “namiss ko kayo.”
According to Lee Seung Gi, he has been looking forward to meeting his Filipino fans for a concert since he was here for a fan meeting back in 2019. Due to the pandemic, fans had to settle for online meetings, so he now intends to meet more often. His main goal is to meet the international Airens in person.
On Korean Wave in the Philippines
When asked what he feels about making the Filipinos’ dream come true by visiting the country, he responded: “First of all, it is very nice to see the cultural communication between Korea and the Philippines through K-Pop, movies, and the music industry. I thank you so much for loving the current culture, and you can also expect me to have music activities here in the Philippines as well in the future.“
As part of the new show Bro Marble, Lee Seung Gi mentioned that the landmarks in the Philippines he would choose are firstly Manila and Ilocos as their tourist spots.
Talks About His New Album, Collaborations, and Acting Career
As an actor, Lee Seung Gi is up for a new challenge after playing many successful roles in different genres. Currently, he’s interested in portraying a doctor. The actor also wanted to try the romantic-comedy genre because of its popularity. He said, “I think the Philippine weather is perfect for a RomCom; maybe we can try filming a RomCom here in the Philippines.“
Recently, Lee Seung Gi finished filming Big Family, which is expected to air next year. He plans to release a new album and collaborate with other artists on his 20th-anniversary album next year. He shared, “I’ll be releasing a collaboration with famous senior and junior singers along with famous producers. I’ll be making an album for you guys.“
Career Growth as a Veteran Artist
The singer has been active in show business since 2004, but he confessed to lacking confidence in the early years of his career. His advice to his younger self was: “Young Lee Seunggi, don’t be afraid. When I was young, I was really afraid of challenges or trying new things, but I would like to say that you should not be afraid. Try out and challenge your own.“
When asked about experiencing the defining moment of his career, Lee Seung Gi admitted to experiencing new things recently. He answered, “I am in my new company. I have a new start. We are trying to go abroad and meet our Asian fans and distant countries to show that we appreciate them.“
Although Lee Seung Gi is one of the top South Korean celebrities, he shows the real him on and off the camera, especially in variety shows. During his 20 years of experience, the most valuable lesson he learned that shaped him as an artist was to move forward.
He shared, “I think the most important lesson I learned is to move instead of thinking. If you just think, nothing can be started. I would like to be in action, so I could find a way to get through this entertainment industry.“
Message for his Filipino Fans
Before bidding goodbye to the media representatives and fans, Lee Seung Gi recalled his best memory of Filipino fans. Lee Seung Gi replied that it was the heartwarming fan letters sent to him.
He revealed, “The fans are always sending the best letters. Coming from their expressions and Love, I could already know that this letter comes from the Philippine fans.”
Lee Seung Gi added a message for his fans, “First of all, I miss you guys so much. I am really happy that I could meet you guys at the concert that I’ll be having. Next, I’ll be participating in different projects so that I can meet you guys. Please wait for me and look forward to it. Thank you!“
