SMAC (SM Advantage Card), the largest loyalty program of retail behemoth SM, has donated P5.5 million to the Hapag Movement due to its members’ ardent support. The contribution to the Globe-led initiative aims to alleviate involuntary hunger among Filipinos impacted by the pandemic and economic difficulties.

During the month-long campaign during the holiday season, proceeds from the sale of each SMAC card were donated to the movement and SM Foundation programs.

In addition, from December 15, 2022, to January 15, 2023, a portion of the extra points SMAC members earned by purchasing select items from SM’s partner establishments– SM Store, SM Beauty, SM Appliance, Kultura, Surplus, Our Home, Baby Company, Crate and Barrel, Levi’s, The Body Shop, Forever21, Ecco, and Miniso– were donated to the Hapag Movement, making holiday shopping even more meaningful and impactful. This is incredibly empowering, as every SMAC member can partake in the Globe of Good!

The donation from SMAC will assist the Hapag Movement’s implementing partners – the Ayala Foundation, Inc., Caritas Philippines, Tzu Chi Foundation, and World Vision – with supplemental nutrition and livelihood initiatives.

According to Globe Group’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, Yoly Crisanto, they appreciate SMAC and the SM Group’s substantial support of the Hapag Movement. This donation will significantly impact the lives of those experiencing involuntary hunger, mainly as the movement aims to help more of our vulnerable compatriots this year.

Jay Beltran, SMAC’s head of sales and marketing stated that this program exemplifies the compassion and generosity of SMAC members, SM brands, and its affiliates, who joined to support this campaign. All SMAC membership cards sold and all SMAC purchases resulted in a donation far surpassing our expectations. It remarked that SMAC became a conduit through which members of the Hapag Movement could bestow their blessings on those experiencing involuntary starvation.

Globe’s Hapag Movement utilizes technology and collaboration to provide supplemental nutrition and livelihood assistance to 100,000 families experiencing involuntary hunger.

In the first quarter of 2023, an estimated 2,7 million Filipino families experienced involuntary starvation, according to the most recent survey by Social Weather Stations

Those who wish to donate to the Hapag Movement may use their unused Globe Rewards points via GCash, credit cards, or the GlobeOne app.
