Concert Recap
Jason Derulo Brings the Biggest Party of the Year to Manila
Over nine years after his last concert in the Philippines, American singer-songwriter and dancer Jason Derulo was finally back in the country last November 22, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, delivering world-class performances for his fans.
The venue was already buzzing even before the singer came out as DJ Patty Tiu warmed up the arena with a high-energy mix of EDM hits, pop anthems, and beat drops, while the Filipino fans jammed to the music and began drinking.
As the lights dimmed, the crowd cheered, and the global artist appeared on the stage, performing one of his greatest hits, “Swalla,” opening the event with his powerful vocals, smooth moves, and lively spirit.
One of the highlights of the show was when Derulo performed his newest single, “Who Hurt You,” where he taught the tune to the audience and asked them to sing with him. He also remarked that Filipinos are known for being good singers.
The Philippine crowd surely did not disappoint their idol as they loudly and beautifully sang along with him throughout the two-hour concert, matching his incredible talent and performance.
Derulo also expressed his gratitude to the Filipino fans, emphasizing how much he missed being in Manila.
Nostalgic yet energetic vibe
The setlist brought back many memories and emotions to the audience as it included several classic hits, such as “Watcha Say,” “Want to Want Me,” “In My Head,” and “Talk Dirty,” among others.
However, the hitmaker proudly and particularly mentioned his famous song that got everyone through the pandemic, ”Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat),” which became a viral sensation on TikTok in 2020. For this track, he collaborated with New Zealand music producer Jawsh 685, who owned the instrumental piece, then Derulo added the lyrics and vocals.
In October 2020, a remix of the said song was released. It featured South Korean boy group BTS, who added some verses, including ones in their native language.
Another memorable moment was when the artist went down the stage, singing “You DJ, I’ll Drive” while interacting with the fans. The crowd cheered even louder as the first notes of “Trumpets” started playing.
His wholesome interactions with his fans proved his unconditional love for them, which was also reciprocated.
Party after party
The party began even before the show as the venue was filled with fun activities, such as a photobooth, games, and bar lounges, prepared by event partners.
To make the concert even more exciting, several local celebrities were spotted in the arena, including Ellen Adarna, Arci Muñoz, some Hashtags members, and Filipino boy band VXON, among others.
The concert was really one of a kind as a bar lounge was set in the VIP section, with the SVIP, Patron, and Lower Box Premium ticket holders having bar lounge access, a free drink, and a chance to join the afterparty.
Several perks were given to the attendees of the afterparty, such as a wrist tag, a free-size shirt, an official event poster, and a bottomless drink.
Indeed, it has been a memorable and fun night.
