Fill in the Blank: ROCKY’s 1st Fan Con in Manila started off with the K-Pop artist’s co-composed song “Find Me,” dominating the SM North EDSA Skydome last August 2, as his fans welcomed him with loud cheering and applause.

For the first time in nearly nine years, Park Min-hyuk, famously known as ROCKY, returned to perform on the Philippine stage. He last visited the country on September 3, 2016, for the Show Champion in Manila, where his former K-Pop group ASTRO participated.

Solid Rocky

Rocky mesmerized his fans, collectively called as HAMOs, with his amazing setlist, including “Book Mark,” “Masterpiece,” “Read you,” and “Music Is My Life,” but one of the highlights of his fancon is his rendition of 2NE1’s “I Am the Best,” where the crowd went wild as he asked them to stand, jump, and singalong.

To make the show even more exciting, the idol shared three too much information (TMI) videos. The first one focused on the moon he saw in Manila, while the second was a video of him eating at a Korean BBQ in the Philippines, and the last was the welcome banner in his hotel room.

The venue was filled with laughter and shouts as Rocky tried to guess and speak Filipino words, such as “Mahal kita (I love you)” and “Sobrang miss kita (I miss you so much),” which flattered the fans’ hearts. His performances and segments surely made a solid connection with HAMOs.

Pinoy humor

Being unintentionally funny, numerous fans claimed that Rocky resonates with the Filipino comedic style. “Kinagagalak kitang makilala (I am pleased to meet you)” was one of the phrases he needed to learn, but he mispronounced it several times, making it sound like a tongue-twister. Then, when he finally pronounced the words successfully, he rapped those repeatedly, making the fans laugh so hard.

Another funny encounter was when HAMOs chanted “walang uuwi (no one will go home),” then Rocky said there is a venue rental fee, to which the fans answered, “ambagan (chip in).” They also teased their idol during the fan project segment by singing “Happy Birthday” when they gave a cake to him, even though he was born on the 25th of February.

His fun and outgoing personality made the event even more enjoyable and memorable.

The fancon has several perks, including a Hi-Bye session for all ticket holders, but Rocky turned it into High-Touch, proving his unconditional love and deep gratitude for HAMOs.

Aside from the fan benefits, the K-Pop star also did a great fan service. He went down from the stage while serenading the audience with his song “Yes or No.”

Indeed, it was an unforgettable night for everyone as Rocky concluded his first fancon in Manila with his “On My Mind” performance, promising his fans that he would come back again.

This event was presented by Wish Us Luck Entertainment.
