TOAKA joins RADWIMPS for the WORLD TOUR 2024
The Japanese rock band RADWIMPS will feature TOAKA as a guest on their upcoming RADWIMPS WORLD TOUR 2024 “The way you yawn, and the outcry of Peace” in Manila on May 1, 2024, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
In collaboration with the renowned film music composer Kazuma Jinnouchi, RADWIMPS produced the ideal score and soundtrack for “Suzume,” the latest film by award-winning auteur director Makoto Shinkai. TOAKA, who had previously gained notoriety online, received her big break when she was invited to audition for a guest vocalist role on RADWIMPS’ song for the film. She nailed it and contributed a performance to the film’s title track that showcased both the subdued and ascending qualities of her voice.
TOAKA, a singer-songwriter, entered the music industry similarly to many others her age. Beginning with cover songs and eventually her own, the 21-year-old producer amassed major label attention and was featured in the film “Suzume” before achieving prominence on TikTok. “Boku dakeno Ai,” her recently published debut EP on a major label (Universal Music Worldwide), demonstrates the breadth of her artistic prowess and individuality. Her debut album of compositions demonstrates an eclectic musical sensibility.
“Discord-disco” propels itself forward, revealing the unsettling side of TOAKA, whereas “Cinderella” surges forward propelled by a dance rhythm. “Boku dakega Ai,” conversely, juxtaposes Toaka with a more minimal setting, effectively highlighting the intricacies of her vocal performance. Consistently, the lyrics strike a balance between youthful yearning and a hint of melancholy.
The Japanese 4-piece group RADWIMPS was formed in 2001, and in 2005 they released their first single on a big label. They quickly amassed a large following, with the younger demographic comprising the majority. To date, the ensemble has issued a total of nine studio albums.
The group won a Japanese Academy Award for Best Original Score for their work on Shinkai’s two prior record-breaking animated feature films, “Your Name” and “Weathering with You.” In a recent collaboration, RADWIMPS and the renowned film music composer Kazuma Jinnouchi produced the ideal score and soundtrack for “Suzume,” an achievement of auteur director Makoto Shinkai.
The film amassed over $300 million worldwide. “Susume” has achieved remarkable acclaim not only within Japan but also internationally, with particular resonance in the Philippines.
