Radwimps, the Japanese rock band known for their intricate melodies and emotionally charged lyrics, made their long-awaited show in Manila last May 1 to a sold-out crowd at the Araneta Coliseum. Presented by PULP Live, the one-night show came at a standout moment as eager fans abuzz filled the venue for their profoundly titled show, “THE WAY YOU YAWN, AND THE OUTCRY OF PEACE.” The energy in the air was palpable as fans lined up excited to witness the band’s raw and powerful performances live on stage.

Starting with a stellar lightshow and stalwart beats by drummer Satoshi Yamaguchi in the opening track “Lights Go Out”, Radwimps never let go of the energy. And fans loved it!

Manila is arguably the loudest crowd for the band’s tour – the aural assault changed into some thing to behold. From the instant the band took the stage, it was clear that they have been there to give their all.

The magical interplay between guitarist Akira Kuwahara and Yusuke Takeda on bass emulated in every moment. Lead singer Yojiro Noda’s passionate vocals reverberated throughout the venue, accompanied by the band’s tight instrumentation that weaved seamlessly between rock riffs and soft, contemplative ballads.

The setlist featured a mix of new tracks from their latest album, from “Suzume”,  “NEVER EVER ENDER”, to “Zenzenzense” and “Sparkle” from the hit anime film “Your Name.” Each tune greeted with loud cheers and sing-alongs from the crowd. The emotions were overwhelming, a lot of fans admitted being moved to tears – shout out to “Nandemonaiya”. Yojira joked in between songs saying “You guys screaming…thank you so much.”

But it wasn’t just the music that made the night special. Radwimps also took the time to have interaction with the crowd, sharing personal message and expressing their gratitude for the warm welcome they received in Manila.

The band’s genuine and humble demeanor only solidified their fame as one of Japan’s most beloved and respected acts. Of which Yojiro quips, “I just want to say that it’s a great moment to share the music we created in the studio.”

As the night came to a close, Radwimps left a lasting impression on their Filipino fans. The band’s impassioned performance had touched the hearts of everyone in attendance, reminding us all of the universal power of music to unite and inspire.
