Coldplay to Release New Album, “Moon Music,” in October

Coldplay has announced the release of their much-anticipated tenth album, Moon Music. The record will be available in stores and on streaming services on October 4, 2024.

The album’s first song, “feelslikeimfallinginlove,” will be available globally on Friday, June 21. The single may be preordered here. The band debuted the song at their sold-out stadium event at Budapest’s Puskás Aréna, as seen in the video below.

Moon Music, produced by Max Martin, is now available for pre-order everywhere, with a limited number of hand-signed editions available through the official Coldplay Store at store.coldplay.com.

NEW FORMATS AND NEW SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS

In keeping with Coldplay’s groundbreaking sustainability initiatives on their current tour, which has resulted in 59% fewer CO2e emissions than their previous stadium tour, the band has gone to considerable pains to make the physical release of Moon Music as sustainable as possible.

This will be the first record to be released as a 140g EcoRecord LP, with each copy constructed from nine recycled PET-plastic bottles recovered from post-consumer trash. This will prevent the production of more than 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic and produce an 85% decrease in manufacturing process CO2 emissions per kg when compared to regular 140g vinyl.

The band has also joined with long-time allies The Ocean Cleanup to produce a new format: the Notebook Edition EcoRecord LP. The rPET for this edition is made up of 70% river plastic captured by The Ocean Cleanup from the Rio Las Vacas in Guatemala and prevented from reaching the Gulf of Honduras and the Atlantic Ocean. Moon Music’s CD editions will be the world’s first EcoCD releases, made from 90% recycled polycarbonate obtained from post-consumer waste streams. This will result in a 78% reduction in CO2/kg emissions while avoiding the production of more than five metric tonnes of virgin plastic.

LIMITED FIRST EDITION RELEASE 

In an effort to decrease waste, Moon Music’s first edition run (both EcoRecord LP and EcoCD) will be carefully limited and made to a better standard than subsequent releases. Each First Edition EcoRecord LP product will be individually numbered.

Moon Music is currently available for pre-order in four physical versions, all clearly identified as First Edition, with all EcoRecord rPET LP goods individually numbered:

The Notebook Edition (EcoCD and EcoRecord LP) is packaged as a casebound hardback book. The book is an exact reproduction of Chris Martin’s original studio notebook, with 28 pages of previously unseen notes, lyrics, and illustrations from the album’s composition and recording sessions. The Notebook Edition also includes additional voice notes and demos from the album’s recording sessions, which offer a unique perspective on the music’s development.

Moon Music is Coldplay’s first album since 2021’s Music Of The Spheres, which produced the US Number One song with BTS, My Universe, and was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys. Music Of The Spheres has already had over four billion streams.
