The “Houdini” sequence is the narrative thread that Dua’s forthcoming endeavor intricately interweaves. Dua says “Houdini” “embodies that 4 a.m. feeling when the party is winding down, and you’re slightly perspiring, but you just can’t let it go.” Dua is seen in the official music video co-directed by Manu Cossu and André Chemetoff as cinematographer, post-rehearsing her choreography in a dance hall under fluorescent lighting. As the energy begins to swell, their reflection in the mirrors of the chamber produces an optical illusion.

Dua states, “This song symbolizes the most liberating and lighthearted moments of my single life.” “‘Houdini’ is a lighthearted exploration of the question of whether someone is truly worth my time or whether I will ultimately abandon them. One can never predict where an experience may lead them; this is the glory of being receptive to everything life presents.

“I am eager to impart to my fans that sensation of defiant elation.” Dua Lipa

“Houdini” was produced by Parker and Harle and was co-written by Lipa, Caroline Ailin, Danny L. Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr., and Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. These individuals worked as primary collaborators on the project. Dua states, “A significant portion of this album was composed during those exuberant moments of complete anarchy when I traversed the globe with a lighthearted optimism and a positive outlook on any eventuality.”
