Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA – The First Hotel Brand in the Philippines to Launch PlasticShreds

Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA is the first hotel in the Philippines to partner with Diversey’s PlasticShreds Sustainable Program, marking a significant step forward in the struggle against plastic pollution.
Stefan Phang, Global Director of ESG & Creating Shared Value at Diversey, Inc., along with the Diversey team, Ann Olalo, General Manager of Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA, and her team, and Chef Leah Magallanes, Vice President of Quality & Sustainability at SM Hotels and Conventions Corp., witnessed the collaboration on June 20, 2023.
Mr. Stefan Phang conveyed his excitement regarding the partnership by stating, “PlasticShreds is the most recent Diversey program Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA, Philippines has adopted. Previously, Diversey and Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA collaborated to run Soap For Hope, which reprocesses used hotel guest soaps into new soap bars, and Linens For Life, which transforms end-of-life hotel linen into new products, including face masks, school uniforms for children, kitchen aprons, tote bags, soft toys, and others.
These programs safeguard the environment by diverting tons of hotel waste from landfills, incinerators, and oceans. Still, they also assist local communities by enhancing their livelihoods and providing them with protective items such as soaps and face masks. We are thrilled that Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA is a committed partner in our programs. PlasticShreds and other CSV programs are assisting the hotel in achieving Hospitality Sustainability Basics certification before the deadline.”
Ms. Ann Olalo, general manager of Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA, stated, “As part of Radisson Hotel Group’s commitment to Responsible Business and Hotel Sustainability Basics, we are committed to operating a responsible and sustainable business. We are pleased to collaborate with Diversey on various sustainable initiatives, the most recent of which is a commitment to reduce single-use plastic and environmental impact in our local community. These shredded plastic pieces will be repurposed to create planter boxes and miniature pots for hotel use and guest amenity.”
“The launch of PlasticShreds and the other community programs that our hotels run in collaboration with Diversey contribute to meeting the criteria of Hotel Sustainability Basics, the industry standard for sustainable hotel operations.”
In 2024, all properties within the Radisson Hotel Group will comply with a verifiable standard of hotel sustainability. As a recipient of the 2022 company award for Responsible Business, the Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA is one of our best-in-class hotels following our company’s focus on “Think People, Think Community, and Think Planet.” Radisson Hotel Group’s Global Senior Vice President of Sustainability, Inge Huijbrechts, explains.
