Representatives from the Department of Tourism in Calabarzon, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Davao, TPB Philippines, and the Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving (PCSSD), as well as dive resorts and operators such as Crystal Blue Resort, Magic Resorts Philippines, Discovery Fleet, Kasai Village Dive Resort, Scandi Divers, El Galleon Resort / Asia Divers, Buceo Anilao Beach & Dive Resort, Atmo

Christina Garcia Frasco, secretary of tourism for the Philippines, is optimistic that the country’s involvement in international trade events such as the DEMA Show will signal a strong resurgence for the country’s dive industry. In addition, the national government has for the first time allocated Php 9,53 million to the PCSSD, an agency of the DOT responsible for marine sports, for a more intensive dive tourism promotion and development.

“We are ecstatic that our national government has supported the dive sector since its inception, and we are eager to welcome dive experts and enthusiasts from around the globe. Here, you will find 7,641 islands, a tropical environment, hospitable natives, diverse marine life, and world-renowned underwater locations.”

Today marked the official opening of the Philippines’ pavilion at the DEMA Show, which featured the country’s greatest dive sites in Batangas, Cebu, Bohol, and Palawan, as well as activities such as the sardine run, reef wall snorkeling, dolphin watching, and wreck diving, among others.

In addition to business contacts and networking opportunities, the Philippines exhibit provided substantial educational opportunities through national presentations and the transmission of information about recent advancements in the Philippine dive sector.

In addition, TPB COO Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles stated that the Philippines’ participation in DEMA Show will help to maintain the country’s presence on the international tourist scene, particularly in North America, which was the country’s largest source of arrivals prior to the epidemic. With the opening of international borders, it is also anticipated that 30 percent of Americans will take more leisure excursions by the end of the year.

Since 2015, we have participated in this event; but, due to the pandemic, we have not been able to exploit the marketing and business prospects during the last two years. Now is the time to reinforce the Philippines’ reputation as one of the world’s top diving destinations and to encourage US divers to revisit the country. Nograles, the TPB’s chief operating officer, asserted that the organization is once again competitive.

Recently, the Philippines was acknowledged as Asia’s Leading Dive Destination at the World Travel Awards 2022 held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Philippines has retained this distinction for four consecutive years since 2019, surpassing Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
