The Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) is excited to announce that the “K-Culture Next Door: 2024 Korea Festival” will be coming to Cebu! The opening ceremony will take place at SM Seaside City Cebu’s Mountain Wing Atrium on June 15-16 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and at the Sky Hall on June 15 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

K Culture Next Door 2024 Korea Festival in Cebu

This thrilling and free two-day event provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Korean culture. As we commemorate 75 years of friendship between Korea and the Philippines, the subject “K-Culture Next Door” reflects the close link between two countries. Korea and the Philippines have inspired and supported one another through cultural exchange and contacts over the years, much like neighbours who are only a ‘doorbell’ away.

‘Next Door’ Performance

This year’s Korea Festival is more than just a forum for cultural exchange and performances; it also commemorates the relationship of two island cities, Jeju and Cebu. This is why we are excited to present Jeju Island’s distinct history, culture, and traditions, which will be emphasised by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Dance Company at the festival’s opening ceremony on June 15 at 2:00 PM at Sky Hall.

The dance company, founded in 1989, serves as the island’s ‘cultural envoy’, extensively showcasing Jeju’s repertoire of works that draw on the island’s specific cultural and historical qualities. With performances all over the world, from the United States to Africa and various regions of Asia, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Dance Company has helped to strengthen diplomatic ties and celebrate culture.

To commemorate the affinity between these two islands, the University of Cebu Dance Company, which won the “Best Folkloric Dance Troupe” award at the 2012 Korean World Travel Fair and Expo, will present a traditional performance display.

But the performances do not end there! Modern dances are introduced with traditional performances! K-Tigers, Korea’s pop taekwondo group with over 1.4 million YouTube followers, will present an exhilarating K-fusion taekwondo performance with a K-pop cover dance competition, “Everyone’s KPOP: Cebu,” which aims to highlight Cebuanos’ dancing abilities.
