Squid Game, Netflix’s mega-hit series, will make a triumphant return this year, and the world is vibrating with excitement. The “Next On Netflix” event today, which revealed tantalizing previews of what’s to come, fueled fan excitement for a program that is still Netflix’s most popular series more than two years later.
Aside from its massive viewership, the series made history by winning six Primetime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Directing for Hwang Dong-hyuk and Outstanding Lead Actor for Lee Jung-jae, as well as prestigious accolades such as the Gotham Award for “Breakthrough Series” and a “AFI Honor in 2021.”
A heart-pounding conclusion footage shown at the occasion depicts Gi-hun making an important decision. Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, who won Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 74th Primetime Emmys®, abandons his plans for the United States after receiving a suspicious call and goes on a chase with a motive.
Other favorite characters will return in the new season, including Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and Recruiter (Gong Yoo). Adding to the intrigue, a new character, played by Park Gyu-young, makes her debut, piqueing interest.
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the visionary director, returns to command the ship. Hwang returns to his role as director, writer, and producer after becoming the first Asian to win Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards®.
