Netflix to Stream ‘Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos’ the Movie on August 22
Netflix announced on Friday that it will exclusively stream Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie, the two-part anime film production that adapts the final “Shadow Galactica” arc of Naoko Takeuchi’s original Sailor Moon manga, worldwide on August 22.
The initial film was released on June 9, 2023, and the subsequent film was released on June 30.
Both films were directed by Tomoya Takahashi at Toei Animation, who is known for his work on Den-noh Coil and Gatchaman Crowds. The scripts were once again written by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, who wrote all six JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure portions, Land of the Lustrous, and PriPara. Kazuko Tadano, the character designer for the original Sailor Moon anime, proceeded to create the characters. Upon his return, Yasuharu Takanashi (Naruto Shippūden) composed the music. The art director was Yumiko Soraga.
The theme tune “Tsuki no Hana” (Moon Flower) is performed by Daoko.
In June 2021, Netflix commenced the global streaming of the two-part anime film project, Pretty Guardians Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie (Bishōjo Senshi Sailor Moon Eternal). Sailor Moon Crystal’s fourth season is replaced by a two-part film production. The “Dead Moon” arc of Takeuchi’s original manga is the subject of the films.
The third Sailor Moon Crystal season, which premiered in April 2016, was characterized by a new staff and centered on the Death Busters arc (also known as the Infinity arc). The season was streamed on Crunchyroll, Niconico, and Hulu. The first two Sailor Moon Crystal seasons were streamed overseas by the three services and others as they were released online in Japan. Sailor Moon Crystal is also available for streaming on Netflix.
All three seasons were licensed by Viz Media for release in North America. In August 2016, the company released the first season of Sailor Moon Crystal on DVD and DVD/Blu-ray Disc combo pack. The second season was published in February 2017, and the third season was released in December 2017.
The fifth and final season of the original Sailor Moon anime, which adapts the “Shadow Galactica” arc, Sailor Moon Stars, was the first season to be released on home video in North America by Viz Media. From 1996 to 1997, 34 episodes of Sailor Moon Stars were broadcast.
