P-pop Groups YGIG and PLUUS Unveil Christmas Single ‘Maligaya ang Pasko’
SBTown, in collaboration with Universal Records Philippines, acquaints listeners with an early Aguinaldo with their up-and-coming P-Pop groups’ Christmas single “Maligaya ang Pasko” just in time for the first anniversary of YGIG’s debut and the recent release of PLUUS’ love song.
In addition to being a play on the words Maligayang Pasko, which means “Merry Christmas,” Maligaya ang Pasko means “The Christmas is happy/merry.” This song describes a man’s desire to spend Christmas with the woman he loves and win her affection. Nevertheless, each of his endeavors culminated in a decisive rejection.
However, have no fear, for YGIG and PLUUS are at your disposal to amuse. Recognized for their formidable sibling dynamics, YGIG and PLUUS have been consistently delivering their best work through the release of new songs. YGIG, in particular, experienced a two-month revival with the release of their YLGOIVGE album, while PLUUS achieved the same with their two singles, Missing You and Shining Star. This dynamic partnership further solidified the fervent backing of WeGo (supporters of YGIG) and SUM (supporters of PLUUS), particularly after the inclusion of YGIG’s Maeg as the leading woman of PLUUS’ Justin in the music video for PLUUS’ Shining Star.
In addition to this collaborative single, YGIG and PLUUS have been actively promoting the album through various means, including magazine features (PARCINQ), joint local mall excursions (WeGo SUM-all Tour), and television appearances on All-Out Sundays (GMA) and ASAP Natin ‘To (ABS-CBN).
In August of 2023, when two ensembles represented the Philippines at the Jeonju Music Festival in South Korea, they delivered an even more impressive performance. These groups decided to end the year on a high note with a song that would warm the winter season and bring joy to fans, P-Pop fanatics, and anyone who might spend their holidays alone.
This Christmas collaborative song is both groups’ sixth official release: YGIG has Shaba-Shaba, Doob Doob, Touchdown, BB (Beautiful Boy), and IDKY, while PLUUS has My Time, Cross My Heart, Amigo, Missing You, and Shining Star. A girl ensemble comprising six members, YGIG (“You Go I Go”) is Alexei, Hazelyn, Jewel, JM, Maeg, and Vien. PLUUS (pronounced “Plus, Us”) is a boy band with six members: Yen, JL, Justin, Haro, Gab, and Theo. Both ensembles are destined to make their names known on the local and international music and culture scenes as representatives of the Philippines.
The official music video for “Maligaya Ang Pasko” has already been released.
