Actor Park Hyung Sik Learns Tagalog for Fans During Manila Fan Meeting

Filo-SIKret fans are still on cloud nine after Park Hyung Sik’s 2024 Asia Tour Fan Meeting, “SIKcret Time in Manila,” at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on February 17th. Hosted by Janeena Chan and presented by MQLive and TONZ Entertainment, the event offered fans an unforgettable night with the charming South-Korean actor.

From ZE:A idol member to Korean drama heartthrob, Park Hyung-sik’s journey is remarkable, making waves in popular dramas like “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon,” “Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth,” “The Heirs,” “Suits,” and “Happiness.” Currently captivating audiences in the ongoing series “Doctor Slump,” Park Hyung Sik’s transition from idol to Hallyu actor continues to showcase his versatility and popularity worldwide.

During the fan meeting, the actor entered the stage, serenading fans with the opening number ‘Bud’ from his drama OST, Our Blooming Youth. Hyung Sik responded effortlessly to the host’s Tagalog interview, also learning slangs like “na kakaloka ka,” “chika tayo,” “keri-keri,” and “ano ba ‘yan,” making fans burst with laughter.

When asked about his expectations in the Philippines, he expressed, “I really love scuba diving, and the Philippines is very popular for this. I know the Philippines has many beautiful spots for this, but I have been very busy, so I’m looking forward to it.

T.M.I (Today Much Information)

In this segment, fans had the chance to get to know more about the actor as he shared fun facts about himself. Park Hyung Sik revealed accepting his role in Doctor Slump as the script immediately caught his attention, aiming to give comfort and healing through his character.

Despite working with Park Shin Hye in The Heirs, he never got to meet her, but he enjoyed people’s reactions to them being in the same project, describing it as “fun.” Despite being one of the most cheerful actors, Hyung Sik shared that he still feels lonely sometimes, finding solace in activities like going out with friends, scuba diving, and playing golf to concentrate away from problems and refocus.

Regarding his playlist, Hyung Sik mentioned listening to his Wooga squad’s BTS Taehyung song before sleeping. Another fun fact he shared was his childhood dream of becoming a policeman and an attorney. Additionally, he apparently likes talking to himself while cleaning.

After the TMI segment, Hyung Sik sang his rendition of Justin Bieber’s “Off My Face.” 

Games: Physical Coordination Test, Code Breaking Ability Test, and Poker Face Test

The games aimed to test Park Hyung Sik’s best abilities. According to him, he likes memorization the most since he has already read lots of scripts. For the Physical Coordination Test, he needed to collect opinions from his fans and choose a number. Additionally, he had to do the “sipa” game for 30 seconds from the fan’s given number.

In the Poker Face Test, there were five microphones with only one on tune. Hyung Sik had to use only three microphones to find the right one. For this, he sang “Just Once,” “Two People,” and surprised K-Pop fans by singing and dancing to Z:EA’s “Breathe,” reminiscent of the 2nd gen era of K-Pop! 

The last game focused on memorization and action, requiring Hyung Sik to memorize and act out all the photos flashed on screen. Fans helped him determine if his poses were right or wrong.

Code Breaking Ability Test

For the Code Breaking Ability Test, the challenge was to guess the meaning of the Tagalog words: Buwaya, Mahal Kita, Masarap, Labi, Sapatos, and Gwapo with the help of his Filipino fans—the audience described the words for Hyung Sik. The actor personally chose fans from the crowd to ask for help.

Q&A, Serenade & Message to Filipino Fans

During the Q&A, Hyung Sik admitted to being a homebody but expressed a love for trying new things, spending time playing golf, learning, and discovering new hobbies.

Before wrapping up the fan meeting, Park Hyung Sik serenaded the fans, singing Sung Si Kyung’s “Every Moment of You” and his OST “Because of You” from Strong Woman Do Bong Soon.

Park Hyung Sik thanked the fans for being so passionate after seeing their heartfelt messages. He expressed his appreciation and hopes to meet them more in the future, saying, “I’ll come back with a lot more better projects.”
