The cast of the upcoming Disney+ Live-action & anime fantasy series ‘Dragons of Wonderhatch’ revealed
Combining live-action and anime elements, the upcoming series will feature Sena Nakajima, Daiken Okudaira, and Mackenyu and will premiere exclusively on Disney+ this winter.
This winter, audiences are invited to marvel at Dragons of Wonderhatch, a groundbreaking new series that combines live-action and anime to tell an unforgettable tale. The principal cast for the anime world of the series and several pieces of character art was recently revealed for the first time. The series will be available exclusively on Disney+.
Dragons of Wonderhatch will tell the story of Nagi, a high school student who lives in the “real world” but feels out of place among her peers; Thaim, a dragon rider who communicates with dragons in the anime world of Upananta; and Aktha, the dragon rider hero.
Thaim and Acta will be voiced by Daiken Okudaira (Mother, Insomniacs After School) and Mackenyu (One Piece, Knights of the Zodiac), while Nagi will be performed by Sena Nakajima, and Thaim’s dragon sidekick, Guphin, will be voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi, who is best known for providing the Japanese voice of Olaf in Frozen.
Jairo, the most formidable dragon rider in all of anime, will be voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda, a newly announced character (Jujutsu Kaisen, Golden Kamuy). Kentaro Hagiwara, the show’s director, stated, “Jairo is a villain who causes people to tremble with dread, but he also has a huge secret he cannot reveal.” Mr Tsuda is an exceptional voice actor who precisely conveys not only Jairo’s conflicts but also the impending sadness.
As part of the exciting announcement, Kenjiro Tsuda, the voice of Jairo, stated, “Although there have been previous works that combine anime and live-action, I was thrilled to be able to participate in a way that will stretch the boundaries of this medium.” Guphin’s voice actor, Shunsuke Takeuchi, concurred, stating, “I’m looking forward to seeing the unique world-building that will occur throughout this series, and I’m giving this endeavour my all to ensure that Guphin resonates with audiences as the lovable, relatable character that he is.”
The announcement also revealed several exciting character designs, providing audiences with their first glimpse at the animated characters Thaim, Aktha, Jairo, and the adorable Guphin.
Dragons of Wonderhatch will premiere exclusively on Disney+ this winter under the direction of Kentaro Hagiwara, with Takashi Otsuka directing the anime world. The animated universe of the series is produced by Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell, Psycho-Pass).
