Your Place or Mine

When it was announced that Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher would co-star in a Netflix romantic comedy, a generation of moviegoers was ecstatic at the prospect of two of the genre’s most bankable actors collaborating for the first time.

This film titled “Your Place or Mine,” and Netflix has released the first trailer showcasing the pair’s chemistry on-screen. Debbie and Peter have been best friends for 20 years after a “memorable” first meeting, portrayed by Witherspoon and Kutcher (read: one night stand).

“Do you recall the night we first met?” As the two reminisce over the phone, Witherspoon’s Debbie asks early on in the clip. They laugh off the memory after Kutcher’s Peter replies, “Never stops being weird.”

Despite their obvious initial attraction, their relationship is now exclusively platonic. That makes sense, given that they are also polar opposites: she is a single mother in Los Angeles who craves routine while raising her son Jack (Wesley Kimmel); he is a New York-based marketing executive who thrives on change.

According to the film’s synopsis, when they swap houses & lives for a week, “they discover that what they think they want may not be what they actually need.” Then, when Debbie develops a rapport with a handsome stranger (Jesse Williams), the “friends” realize that their friendship may have always been the basis for something more.

Written & directed by Aline Brosh McKenna (screenwriter of “The Devil Wears Prada,” “27 Dresses,” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) in her feature directorial debut, the film also stars Zo Chao (Peter’s neighbor who becomes Debbie’s confidante & wingman), Tig Notaro (Debbie’s best friend, who advises Peter on what to do when he realizes he may

As part of their first-look deal with Netflix, the project is produced by Jason Bateman & Michael Costigan for Aggregate Films, Reese Witherspoon & Lauren Neustadter for Hello Sunshine, and Brosh McKenna for her Lean Machine banner.

“Your Place or Mine” premieres on Netflix worldwide on February 10, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
