Manny Pacquiao Has Nothing Left To Prove, According To Team Lakay Featherweight Edward Kelly
Boxing’s only eight-division world champion, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, is at the tail end of his career. Experts are convinced the fiery Filipino fighter is but one Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, boxing’s only eight-division world champion, is nearing the conclusion of his career. Experts believe the fiery Filipino fighter is only one fight away from retiring, but Pacquiao and his Hall-of-Fame trainer Freddie Roach have a few opponents in mind for the 41-year-old veteran.
Pacquiao would most likely not fight in 2020, according to Joe Camporeale Roach, but a comeback to the ring next year is more plausible. Naturally, rumors about Pacquiao’s next dance partner have been circulating the newswires.
However, if it were up to ONE Championship featherweight challenger Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly, his childhood hero would ride off into the sunset.
“I believe Manny is considering retirement. In the ring, he’s already done everything he can. At his heyday, he was the best. Boxing is a young man’s sport, and there are a lot of young, ambitious boxers coming up. Kelly stated, “There’s nothing more to prove.”
Pacquiao last fought in July 2019, when he won the WBA ‘Super’ World Welterweight Title by a split decision over previously unbeaten Keith Thurman.
Following that fight, former world champions Danny “Swift” Garcia and Amir Khan, as well as former sparring partner Shawn Porter, are said to be in the Pacquiao sweepstakes, along with marquee talent Errol Spence Jr. and pound-for-pound best Terence “Bud” Crawford.
While Kelly believes Pacquiao can continue to perform at a high level against the sport’s rising young stars, he believes the fight will end tragically for the Filipino superstar, whether he wins or loses.
“I completely understand why he keeps fighting, and he’s an even bigger hero for keeping Philippine boxing alive on the international scene. If he wins, however, critics will claim he’s only in it for the money. They’ll think he’s already elderly if he loses,” Kelly said.
“We all want to be great when we play sports. For our people, we want to be heroes. Manny, on the other hand, is a legend because he was able to accomplish this. He achieved his goal via perseverance and sheer resolve. He is my source of motivation. With his own sweat, he lifted his family out of poverty. Nothing will be able to change that.”
Kelly, 36, is aiming to get his career back on track after losing three of his previous four matches. While waiting for the call to participate, the guy known as “The Ferocious” continues to practice hard in the gym with his brothers at the renowned Team Lakay in Baguio City.
The ONE Championship has recently begun its flagship event calendar, and as more Asian countries loosen limitations as a result of Covid-19, the chances of Filipino athletes appearing on the cards are increasing.
Pacquiao’s legacy is already written in stone for Kelly, who will always hold him in the highest regard. For the Filipino people, Pacquiao will always remain a hero and an inspiration.
“For me, and many fans around the world, Manny Pacquiao is the greatest fighter of all time. We, the Filipinos, are quite proud of him. Kelly stated, “His name will be indelibly inscribed into the pages of history.”
“He has inspired me greatly, not just because he is a wonderfully gifted boxer, but also because he is a great human being. But also because he is a hero to me. He rose from obscurity to reach the summit of boxing — the ultimate zenith of the sport. It’s a truly inspirational story. He demonstrated that there is no dream we can’t realize if we put our hearts and souls into it.”
