Netflix Korea’s ‘The Frog’ Teaser Hints at Mysterious Guests Disrupting the Peace
Netflix has released a teaser for the Korean thriller series The Frog, which premieres August 23. Starring Kim Yun-seok, Yoon Kye-sang, Ko Min-si, and Lee Jung-eun.
The Frog, directed by Mo Wan-il (The World of The Married), is described by Netflix as a story that “revolves around ordinary people whose peaceful lives are thrown into turmoil by the arrival of a mysterious guest in the middle of the summer.”
The teaser begins with the entrance of strange guest Seong-a (played by Ko) at a peaceful pension home in the woods. She rapidly upsets the pension’s owner, Young-ha (played by Kim), who investigates her motives and identity. It then asks a famous question: “If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it still make a sound?”
The Frog stars Kim Yun-seok (Noryang: Deadly Sea, Escape from Mogadishu), Yoon Kye-sang (The Outlaws), Lee Jung-eun (Parasite, Daily Dose of Sunshine), and Ko Min-si (Sweet Home). Park Chan-yeol of K-pop boy band EXO will also appear. Yoon plays Sang-jun, the proprietor of a rural motel whose calm is also disturbed by another guest, and Lee plays Bo-min, a cop looking into both Young-ha’s and Sang-jun’s cases.
The Frog is one of Netflix’s Korean content offerings for 2024. Last year, the streamer committed to investing $2.5 billion in local content over the next four years.
