[Exclusive Interview] MOMOLAND’s Jane on Her Solo Debut and Self-Written Single “A Door of Light”

Ten years after captivating millions on stage, MOMOLAND’s Jane unveils her most personal transformation yet—stepping into the spotlight as the author of her own song about finding light at the hardest of times.

Around eight years ago in 2018, a single track took the global K-pop scene by storm with an unforgettable, addictive hook that had everyone singing along to “just feel it Bboom Bboom.” MOMOLAND, the energetic powerhouses recognized as one of the defining girl groups of K-pop’s 3rd generation, instantly captured hearts worldwide—and nowhere was that love felt more fiercely than right here in the Philippines.

From filling the Smart Araneta Coliseum to breaking local record charts and taking over Philippine television, MOMOLAND’s connection with their Filipino Merries has always been truly extraordinary. After making a long-awaited group comeback with “Rodeo” in 2025, the group is now gearing up for a monumental milestone: their 10th Anniversary this coming November 2026.

Adding even more magic to this landmark year, MOMOLAND’s main dancer and vocalist, Jane, is stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist with the release of her debut single “A Door of Light” (새벽의 문턱) on October 17, 2026. Celebrating her decade-long journey in music, Jane took complete creative control for this release by personally writing the lyrics and composing the track from scratch to share her most candid, heartfelt voice and boundless gratitude with fans.

We sat down with Jane for an exclusive interview about her brand-new single, her creative breakthrough as a singer-songwriter, and what lies ahead in this shining new chapter!

Buzzsetter: Huge congratulations on your very first solo release 10 years into your debut! How are you feeling right now?

Jane: I’m so nervous because this is the very first time an entire track is filled solely with my own voice! Plus, it means so much more to me knowing that it’s also the first song where I personally wrote all the lyrics and worked on the composition.

Buzzsetter: We heard you took the lead in writing and composing this track! What was the creative journey like for you?

Jane: To be honest, at first I didn’t set out with the specific goal of releasing my own solo song—I just really wanted to get involved in songwriting and composing! But thankfully, a wonderful opportunity came along for me to create my very own track.

I shared the vibe and mood I had in mind alongside a few reference tracks, and when I first heard the instrumental track, I fell in love with it immediately. From there, I wrote 100% of the melody and lyrics myself, and it actually came together super quickly! We also made a lot of live tweaks while recording in the studio, and through all of that, “A Door of Light” was officially born!

Buzzsetter: Tell us more about “A Door of Light”—what story does this song tell?

Jane: I’m someone who tends to overthink a lot. Because I’m a realist, my thoughts aren’t always super optimistic, which sometimes leads me into deep slumps.

However, over the past year, as we resumed MOMOLAND activities and I got to connect closely with our fans again, everything changed. The unconditional love, warmth, and encouraging words they gave me became an immense source of strength. Receiving all that support gave me the confidence to take on the challenge of a solo release! So I wrote this song with the hope of giving that same strength and energy back to our fans through my music.

Buzzsetter: If you had to describe “A Door of Light” in just one phrase, what would it be?

Jane: I’d definitely describe it as “a fresh start“!

Buzzsetter: Were there any fun or memorable behind-the-scenes moments while working on this release?

Jane: There were so many fun moments! Since I wrote and composed the track myself, it was so exciting to be able to tweak the melody and lyrics right on the spot in the recording booth whenever the inspiration struck!

Buzzsetter: What’s next on your horizon? Any future plans you can share with us?

Jane: First and foremost, MOMOLAND will be celebrating our 10th anniversary this November, so I really want to celebrate that milestone together with our members and fans!

While this release is a digital single, I want to keep writing more songs so I can eventually release an album filled entirely with my own tracks. And if the opportunity arises, I’d love to challenge myself with solo stage performances, too!

Buzzsetter: How did your fellow MOMOLAND members react when they first heard ‘A Door of Light’, and did any of them give you advice on going solo?

Jane: To be completely honest, telling the members that I was preparing a solo single and getting ready to release it was actually really tough for me! I felt a bit shy about sharing my very first self-made creation, and I wasn’t entirely confident yet. I was also worried about whether this was the right timing.

But when I finally told them, their response was overwhelmingly supportive, which gave me such a huge boost of confidence! I personally felt the song would suit JooE’s voice really well, so when I asked her to do a challenge with me, I played the song for her for the first time. She told me how good the song was, which made me feel so relieved!

Buzzsetter: If you could send a message back in time to Jane from 10 years ago when she was first starting out, what would you tell her now that you’ve released ‘A Door of Light’?

Jane: Since MOMOLAND is celebrating our 10th anniversary this year, I’d first love to express my deepest thanks to our fans who have always stayed by our side.

I truly believe that everything happens in its own right time, so I’d simply tell her, “You’re doing great just as you are.” If I had to add one little piece of advice, maybe it would be, “Practice playing the guitar a bit more!” Haha.

Buzzsetter: Lastly, do you have a message for all your loving fans out there?

Jane: I was given such a wonderful opportunity to release this solo track, and the whole process was so enjoyable that it made me even more passionate about music! Since this is my very first attempt, I know I still have a lot to learn, but I want to keep growing as a singer-songwriter and find my own unique color.
