Fans of the progressive metal band Dream Theater in the Philippines are in for a treat in 2023
“May the Fourth” be with Dream Theater fans in the Philippines, as the progressive metal band Dream Theater is set to perform in the Philippines in 2023.
James LaBrie, John Petrucci, Jordan Rudess, John Myung, and Mike Mangini were amidst a sold-out world tour supporting their most recent album, Distance Over Time, and the 20th anniversary of Scenes From A Memory when a global pandemic halted all activities. The musicians settled in with LaBrie in Canada and the rest of the band in the United States. As luck would have it, they had just completed the construction of DTHQ (Dream Theater Headquarters), a live recording studio, rehearsal space, a control room, an equipment storage facility, and a creative hub. Initially, while LaBrie was in Canada, he collaborated with the band via Zoom on a monitor at DTHQ. He flew to New York in March 2021, quarantined himself, and recorded his vocals face-to-face with Petrucci. The album, A View From The Top Of The World, ultimately wove together lean and uncompromising hooks with seasoned technical skill.
According to Petrucci, they simply enjoy playing our instruments and that never disappears. He said, “I enjoy being imaginative, writing, and exercising that portion of my mind. We have had this ability for a long time and do not take it for granted. We know we can’t let ourselves or our fans down every time we get together, so we strive even harder.”
LaBrie adds, “We approach every album as if it were our first.” It’s been a wonderful ride, but we’re not stopping.
“For the first time, my impression of Manila is “incredible,” and I cannot think of a better way to describe it. We had no idea what to expect, but we made it there and are now performing at the concert. It was an incredible experience; the fans were phenomenal, and we could tell they were having a fantastic time. We are returning to this location because our first visit was so memorable. Absolutely! “Labrie responded when asked what they learned from their first performance in the Philippines.
