Japanese Live-Action ‘City Hunter’ Film Launches on Netflix
The recently released City Hunter clip sets the tone for the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the renowned manga. Amidst a whirlwind of peril and excitement, Ryo Saeba (portrayed by Ryohei Suzuki) and Kaori Makimura (portrayed by Misato Morita) forge an unanticipated companionship that provides viewers with a glimpse into their developing bond.
Following a cryptic message, Ryo and Hideyuki, also known as the “City Hunter,” set out to find Kurumi, a well-known cosplayer. Upon the untimely demise of Hideyuki during the investigation, his sister Kaori becomes incensed and demands explanations. The revelation that the mysterious drug “Angel Dust” is responsible for the violent incidents plaguing Shinjuku and that Kurumi is the key to uncovering the truth about it thickens the narrative. Ryo and Kaori are motivated by this revelation to investigate the circumstances surrounding Hideyuki’s demise.
The manga’s original author, Tsukasa Hojo, was the first to view the film and was immediately favourable.
“I really enjoyed the film and was impressed by how well it was done. This film shows the characters running around in Shinjuku and I think this is what the fans expect, giving them the thrills of watching it come alive. I encourage all fans of the original manga and anime to experience it for themselves. Even a quick peek before bed will leave you too captivated to sleep. I hope everyone enjoys it.”
In addition to Suzuki and Morita, Masanobu Ando plays Ryo’s partner, Hideyuki Makimura, and Fumino Kimura plays Saeko Nogami, a gorgeous detective with a lengthy relationship with Ryo.
Ryo Saeba, a top-level “sweeper” in City Hunter, uses his athletic abilities, elite marksmanship, and cool composure to clean up disturbances in the gritty underground. Is that his sole weakness? His attraction is to attractive women.
City Hunter premieres April 25, only on Netflix.
