Things You Need to Know About SBS’s New Boy Group Audition Program ‘Universe League’
Musician Jay Park has been officially announced as the solo MC of SBS’s upcoming boy group audition program, Universe League. Scheduled to premiere in November of this year, Universe League serves as the male counterpart to the survival program Universe Ticket, which aired on SBS from November 2023 through January 2024 and successfully created the global rookie girl group, UNIS.
Adding to the excitement, BTOB’s Changsub has been announced as the first mentor for Universe League. On August 15, SBS released a teaser video introducing Changsub as the “manager” for one of the teams in the global boy group audition program. As the manager of Team GROOVE, Changsub will oversee everything from trainee selection to production, utilizing his vocal prowess and coaching skills, previously showcased in programs like C.T.O Project – The Survival. His expertise extends beyond television, as he continues to mentor aspiring artists through managing a music academy.
Following Changsub’s announcement, GOT7’s Yugyeom was revealed as the next mentor for the show. On August 20, SBS introduced Yugyeom as the manager of Team BEAT, adding another layer of anticipation for the show’s debut.
WayV’s TEN and Yangyang has also been announced as a director on Universe League. Known for their diverse experience in the entertainment industry, TEN is expected to draw out the hidden potential and growth of the trainees. Joining him is Yangyang, all-rounder maknae, who will serve as a director for Team Red Rhythm alongside TEN.
In Universe League, contestants will be divided into three teams, each led by a representative K-Pop artist. The teams’ leaders will personally select their members and guide them through league-style missions, with the ultimate goal of winning the “Prism Cup” and securing their debut. The program’s unique format, which incorporates sports elements and strategic trades, promises an exciting and intense battle for stardom.
Universe League is poised to capture the attention of K-Pop fans worldwide as they eagerly anticipate the formation of the next big boy group.
