Korean Series ‘Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born’ Set to Debut October 12 on Disney+
Based on the webtoon of the same name, the new series depicts Kim Taeri, seeking to reach the top of the female Korean classical opera scene.
An ordinary girl with nothing more than a dream and a beautiful voice will seek to conquer the odds and become the best performer in Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born, a new Korean series premiering on Disney+ on October 12.
Based on the popular webtoon, the series follows Jeongnyeon, a Maeran Gukgeuk-dan (Theater Company) student who competes and grows alongside her main opponent, Youngseo. With a desire of becoming one of the top performers in Korean female classical opera, she will be pushed on stage against all odds.
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born, scripted by Choi Hyobi and directed by Jung Jiin, stars Kim Taeri (Revenant, Twenty Five Twenty One) as Jeongnyeon and Shin Yeeun (The Glory, Revenge of Others) as Youngseo. The series is created by CJ ENM’s production powerhouse, Studio Dragon, which is situated in Korea.
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born is the latest Korean series to be announced as part of Disney+’s ever-expanding collection of must-see APAC stories. Over ten high-quality Korean titles were launched in 2024 alone, following on the success of its APAC content slate in 2023, which included successes including Moving, Big Bet, and The Worst of Evil. A Shop For Killers is presently the most viewed local original series on Disney+ in APAC for 2024 (by views). Fans of unforgettable storytelling will be able to watch numerous highly anticipated Korean originals later this year, including The Tyrant, Unmasked, Seoul Busters, Gangnam B-Side, and Light Shop, as well as premium, talent-driven scripted dramas in 2025, including Tempest, Low Life, and Nine Puzzles.
