Department Of Tourism Honors The Philippine Accessible Disability Services: Dragon Boat Team’s Historic Four-Gold Medal
The Department of Tourism (DOT) applauds the Philippine Accessible Disability Services, Inc. (PADS) Dragon Boat Team for their historic win at the International Dragon Boat Federation’s (IDBF) 13th Club Crew World Championships in Sarasota, Florida. They were the first team to win the para dragon boat category.
The PADS dragon boat team, which was made up of people with different abilities and disabilities, won in four categories: the 2,000-meter small boat PD2 category, the 200-meter small boat PD1 and PD2 races, and the 500-meter small boat PD2 category.
“We are very proud of the Cebuano para dragon boat team’s amazing accomplishments, which have made the Philippines proud,” said Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.
“The DOT thinks that sports tourism is a strong tourism product, which is why it helps Filipino athletes, who are some of the best tourism ambassadors for our country,” she said.
The head of tourism made it clear that the DOT backs holding international and local sports competitions in the country to help develop sports like dragon boat racing. Since the country is an archipelago surrounded by large bodies of water, dragon boat racing can give our athletes a competitive edge.
