Daehan Dawon Tea Plantation 1 1

The Boseong Daehan Dawon Tea Plantation is one of Korea’s most famous places. It is set on a hillside with curved rows and rows of well-kept green tea bushes. It’s a popular place for TV shows and movies to take place. It would be best to visit Boseong Daehan Dawon Tea Plantation during Spring time when the leaves are at their greenest.

At the plantation’s restaurant, you can try food and drinks made with green tea for 5000 to 8000.

One of the three places in Korea that are best known for making tea is Boseong. In Boseong, green tea is grown on 26.71 hectares of land, so it would be an understatement to say you’ll have enough. Even though green tea has gone in and out of style over the years, Boseong has been making it since the 1600s.

Boseong has to be one of the rainiest places in Korea, which is great for growing green tea, which needs 1500mm of water a year. This place is known as the green tea capital of Korea. The tea made here has a unique taste and smell, so if you like tea in Korea, you should really go see it for yourself.

Random Fact: Boseong Green Tea was approved by the Russian Medical Biology Lab as a drink that could be part of an astronaut’s special diet after it passed their strict quality tests.

When Do You Visit Boseong Green Tea Terraces

As I said at the beginning, the best thing about green tea bushes in Boseong is that they stay green all year. The Boseong green tea fields are open all year and are green. The bushes may look bare or full depending on when they were picked, and the trees on the mountain may change to match, but in general, the fields are open and green all year.

Boseong Green Tea Festival (보성닀ν–₯λŒ€μΆ•μ œ)

Green tea has been celebrated in Boseong with a festival every year for the past 40 years. The festival usually happens every year in May. If you like festivals with a lot of different things to do, see, and experience, this might be a good time to go. If you don’t like going when there are lots of people, don’t go at this time.

Boseong Tea Plantation Light Festival (보성차밭 λΉ›μΆ•μ œ)

Since 2000, there has been a light festival at the Boseong Green Tea Plantation from the end of November to the start of January. From 6pm to 10pm, you can see a lot of holiday lights and installations.

Daehan Dawon Tea Plantation (λŒ€ν•œλ‹€μ›)

The Daehan Dawon Tea Plantation has been around since 1957. It is one of the largest green tea plantations in Korea that is privately owned. This is also the largest green tea plantation in Boseong. If you want to see a beautiful view of green tea bushes on a hillside, you should go here. Since it’s the most popular green tea field in Boseong, there may be a lot of people there, but it’s a big field, so there’s plenty of room to spread out.

When the Japanese decided to grow green tea here in the 1930s, they built the plantation you see today. During the Korean War, that plantation was destroyed. Chang Young Seop rebuilt it in 1957, which is why you’ll find some different dates and information for the area.

Green tea bushes grow in neat rows along the side of a curved mountain. They are very eye-catching. This is also why I keep calling them “terraces” instead of “fields” of green tea. They are set up on a slope going up the mountain, so they aren’t like the flat green tea fields you might see on Jeju Island.

At the Daehan Dawon plantation, you can see more than just green tea terraces. The owners have also grown a plantation with 3 million trees just for looks. Follow the signs and walk up and around the area to find a grove of juniper, cedar, cypress, ginkgo, chestnut, maple, camellia, and other trees. There is even a beautiful bamboo forest here that many people don’t even know about. Make sure to get a map at the entrance so you can see everything.

What To Do at Daehan Dawon

Eat Green Tea Ice Cream

Green tea ice cream is simply one of the best things to eat in Boseong. Get it from the main square area before you go into the green tea terraces. We walked up and around it, and when we were done, we ate it to cool off. But you can always get the cool treat before you go up and try to bring it with you! It’s delicious. You can’t say you’ve been to the Boseong Green Tea Fields until you’ve eaten the ice cream there.

Hike To The Top For A View

It might look terrifying, but it’s not. Make sure you go all the way up and then back up again, because there are TWO places where you can look out over the city. On clear days, you can see the ocean from the second one, as well as the green tea terraces and pine tree forest. It’s a spectacular and beautiful view with many layers.

See More Than Green Tea

There is a lot more to see than just the green tea bushes that grow along the side of the mountain. Make sure you go to the bamboo forest, the pine and juniper tree groves, and the cherry blossom trees if you go in the spring. Many people don’t talk about how much more there is to see.

On a Tour: They prove some great tours that go to Boseong or Yeosu and stop in Boseong. On our last trip, we went down there with www.hanatour.com, and it was great.

By Plane: Another way to get to Boseong that many people don’t think of is to fly to the south and then rent a car or take a bus from the airports. You can either go to Yeosu Airport or Gwangju Airport. The flight takes an hour, and then you can rent a car and take a little road trip from those stations. Boseong is about an hour’s drive from either airport.

By Train: The KTX to Gwangju Train Station, which takes an hour and a half, is the fastest way to get there. From there, you’d have to switch to the slow train, but the Mugunghwa Train may take an hour and 30 minutes to get from Gwangju to Boseong Train Station.
