“High School in Jakarta” takes listeners back to the beginning of NIKI’s first relationship, capturing the intense whirlwind of feelings that come with falling in love for the first time. The song shows that NIKI still shines when she goes back to her singer/songwriter roots. It has a light and playful melody that brings out NIKI’s ability to tell stories in a vivid and eloquent way. In the video that goes with the song, NIKI is taken back to the problems and joys of high school, where she fell in love for the first time.
The previous single, “Oceans & Engines,” was a heartbreaking ballad about giving up on a broken relationship. “High School in Jakarta” is a passionate moment of clarity that shows how good NIKI is at writing songs. Since it came out, the song has been played over 7 million times, and the music video has been watched over 2 million times. NIKI first told people about Nicole when the lead single “Before” came out. It was a nostalgic record that made people think about the past. NME, UPROXX, and Teen Vogue all said that the record “perfectly shows off NIKI’s songwriting skills.” Both songs will be on the album Nicole.
The Nicole Tour, which was NIKI’s first headlining tour in North America, almost sold out during the presale and in the first 3 hours of general on-sale. The tour starts on September 8 in Vancouver, BC, and goes to major cities like New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and more. It ends on October 22 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Visit nikizefanya.com for more information, and see below for a full list of tour dates.
This spring, NIKI and Rich Brian were the first artists from Indonesia to ever play at Coachella. After she plays at Coachella, NIKI will play at 88rising’s 2022 Head in the Clouds Festival at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in August. Last November, NIKI was the main act at the 2021 Head in the Clouds Festival. Her set was so good that MTV, Flaunt, and The AV Club called her a “goddamn superstar.” Here is where you can see her whole performance at the festival.
NIKI has had more than 1.8 billion streams on all of its platforms so far. Her hit song “Every Summertime” from the soundtrack of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings went viral earlier this year and made it to Spotify’s Today’s Top Hits. It now has over 220 million streams and is still growing. The song was written and produced by NIKI and longtime collaborator Jacob Ray. It’s a happy love song with a throwback sound that reminds you of classic R&B and soul. Listen to the song HERE.
